New Albany provides a Safety Town for kids who are 5 years of age on or before August 1st of that yr and coming into kindergarten or first grade within the Fall. This two week camp is for youngsters who are attending a safety city camp for the primary time. Safety Town, a security schooling program, was founded in 1937 in Mansfield, Ohio, by Traffic Commissioner Frend Boals and Kindergarten Teacher, Mrs. Ruth Robbins. It was designed to show varied areas of traffic security to pre-kindergarten children in a free community program. The purpose of Safety Town is to show primary safety schooling specializing in pedestrian, bicycle, bus, and recreational safety. Each student is taught fundamental guidelines of site visitors and pedestrian security, hearth prevention, school bus security, poison prevention, animal safety, gun security, water security, and stranger awareness.
Operated by bestsafe glove since 1995, Safety Town sits on six acres of The Concourse and was designed particularly for security training of kids ages 5 – eight.
